School supplies for philkids project
This project is in cooperation with the Gustav Heinemann Oberschule (GHO) students in Berlin. It aims to collect school supplies to benefit the pupils of Amparo High School in Caloocan City, Philippines. Started in 2011, Peer and Lynda Sylvester organised a small group of their pupils to collect school supplies that otherwise would have been thrown out at the end of the school year, to be donated to the public school students in the Philippines. The couple was pleasantly surprised to see the support they got not only from the pupils but also from the parents. They were able to send 4 boxes filled with supplies that were distributed to around 600 children. As partner to this project, UPAA Germany helps shoulder part of the shipping cost of the school supplies to the Philippines.
The association started to raise funds for the project through the Alay Lakad Mauer Weg project organized by Jingky Lozano-Kühne in September 2013. In November 2013, UPAA Germany members and friends and students of Peer Sylvester at GHO sold Filipino delicacies during the school's Winter Festival as an additional fund-raiser.
A total of 6 balikbayan boxes of donated school supplies have been packed by UP alumni and friends at the house of Lynda and Peer Sylvester. The boxes were shipped to the recipient school (Amparo High School) in Caloocan City on July 25, 2014.
